About this course

About this Course:
It's no secret that the solar industry is quickly becoming the solar + storage industry. Don't take our word for it; according to Swinerton CEO George Hershman, “Everything in 2022 will have a storage component — the vast majority will have storage in 2021. Everything in California and the West, every contracted asset is going to have storage. We’re seeing the scale go up and cost go down — and we understand how to monetize it — it’s here to stay.”

Our solar + storage workshop series is designed to help system designers and engineers, as well as building officials, project managers, installers, and sales staff stay up-to-date and ahead of the curve for one of the most dynamic sectors of the PV industry.

This two-hour course covers important solar + storage design and installation requirements for two recent iterations of the National Electrical Code (NEC 2017 and 2020). The course is intended for industry professionals who are already familiar with grid-interactive systems but want to understand NEC requirements specific to solar + storage systems.

The course is self-paced and can be taken at any point within 12 months of enrollment. During that time, you will have access to the course videos and all course materials, including a copy of the presentation with easy-to-understand system schematics highlighting which NEC Articles apply to which points within a solar + storage system architecture.

About Mayfield Renewables' Solar + Storage Workshop Series:
The next course in this series is 2020 NFPA 855 and Fire Code Requirements for ESS. Both courses are offered together in the 2017/2023 Electrical & Fire Codes for Energy Storage Systems Bundle.

The courses are designed to be taken as a sequence for a more holistic approach to solar + storage learning or taken a la carte for industry professionals with significant experience in specific subject areas.

Interested in taking the course as a group? We also offer each course as a live workshop (in person or over Zoom) led by our founder and NEC Code Making Panel member, Ryan Mayfield. Find more information here: https://www.mayfield.energy/workshops

This course provides a great overview and clear, quick reference materials for which specific NEC articles apply to different ESS systems (AC coupled, DC coupled, Stand-alone). It will be really helpful to have this course work documentation handy when completing designs to ensure that the correct NEC requirements have been addressed.
