Course Outline

Welcome - Orientation Materials

This is a free course. We take pride in our free courses, but keep in mind that this is only a taste of what we do in a full HeatSpring course. For this course you can use the discussion board to interact with other students and ask questions. You will have access to all of the online materials for a full year. Contact Tom McCormack, your Student Advocate, if you have questions. Please review the orientation materials and introduce yourself on the discussion board.

Week 1 - Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Geothermal Heat Pumps, Building Science

This overview will provide you a quick understanding of how solar PV, solar thermal, geothermal, and building science work. We'll provide you with additional resources you can use to learn more, but this lesson is a critical foundation for understanding where you fit in the industry. Each technology overview is broken up by technology. Watch the overview that you are most interested in.

Week 2 - Understanding the basic finance value of Solar PV, Solar Thermal, and Geothermal

This section of the course will teach you finance basics and how they relate to renewable energy projects. Specifically, we'll focus on understanding gross and net install costs and how government incentives impact those numbers, how to calculate the value of energy that renewable projects create, and why "payback" is a horrible term to communicate the financial implication of renewable energy.

Week 3 - How can YOU make money?

The self-assessment will provide you a framework for understanding how you or your businesses can make money based on your background, skill set, location, and goals. The self-assessment workshop will build upon what you learned in the Basic Technology Overview to provide you with more direction for your next steps. There will also be LIVE Video Q+A today with the instructor where you can ask all of your questions. Please log in to sign into the LIVE Q+A section.

After The Course - Feedback and Additional Resources

No matter how great this course is, we know it's just one part of a bigger journey. In this module we'll start thinking about what comes next. You'll provide feedback on the course, request a certificate of completion, and learn about additional resources. Don't forget that you'll have access to this course and all updates we make to it for at least a year. Feel free to come back as much as you like to continue learning, and please stay in touch.
