About this course
The 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC) was released in September 2025, with states rolling out adoption on their own schedules. In this class, Sean White and Bill Brooks break down what's new in the code - making a massive technical manual digestible and fun. You'll get deep dives into the 2026 updates, clear interpretation of the changes, and comparisons with previous editions so you know exactly what shifted and why it matters.
This bundle includes 2 courses - one focused primarily on PV and the other on Energy Storage Systems (ESS).

Having the 2026 NEC will be useful for this course. You can access it digitally for free directly from the NFPA. Recommended with the course is Sean and Bill's 2026 NEC book, "The PV NEC Book: Mastering Code With Comedy", and the in-progress "The Energy Storage NEC Book: Mastering Code With Comedy".
Bill is the key solar and storage industry person writing the NEC. Whenever there is a disagreement among the top experts, Bill will pour light and energy on how to interpret the code, since there is a good chance he wrote it, or at least helped write it.
Sean, besides studying the NEC, studies comedy, so that you will have fun and remember what others traditionally make boring. Since laughing🤣 helps you learn code, it therefore prevents fires🔥 and it prevents you from getting fired!
This course can be taken alone or as a bundle with its sister 15-Hour Energy Storage NEC course, which qualifies for NABCEP CEUs.
This course also includes some relevant PV building and fire codes for NABCEP credit.

Full FAQHow does this course work?
This bundle of courses is delivered entirely online. After you enroll, the courses will be added to your Account. There's a recommended progression to follow, but you have the flexibility to access the materials in whatever order you prefer. Pre-order courses are available on launch date. The courses are self-paced and you can set your own schedule to complete the materials. You can begin the lecture videos and other course materials as soon as you enroll. After successfully completing the course, you will be able to generate a certificate of completion.
How long do I have access to the materials?
Students can pre-order but will not be able to access the full course materials or earn a certificate of completion until the course is fully published. Once the course is published any students who have pre-ordered will then have access to the course materials for one year (365 days). After the one year of access expires, access can be extended by joining as a HeatSpring member. A single membership extends access to course materials for all past enrollments.
Will the instructor really answer my questions during this course?
Yes! This is an instructor-led online course. You can ask questions on the discussion board and get prompt answers from your instructor. It varies by instructor and by course but typically instructors check-in between daily and weekly to check quiz results or project work, review and respond to discussion board questions and read survey responses. Check the enrollment page for specific information about each instructor's check-in frequency.
Is there a certificate of completion?
Yes, when you complete a course in this bundle you are eligible for a certificate of completion from HeatSpring. You can download your certificate as soon as you have completed all of the course requirements.
