This is a bundle of two courses taught by expert solar PV instructor Sean White. This training can fulfill the 58 hours of advanced training required to sit for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification exam (as long as you pass the NABCEP PV Associate Exam Prep). It is comprised of two courses: "Solar PV Installer Boot Camp Training + NABCEP PV Associate Exam Prep" and "40-Hour Advanced Solar PV Installer Training". If you pass the NABCEP PV Associate Exam after completing the first course, you receive 18 advanced NABCEP credits. Completing the second course gets you 40 advanced NABCEP credits, for a total of 58.

Part 1: Solar PV Installer Boot Camp Training + NABCEP PV Associate Exam Prep

First, you'll complete the basic training material to prepare for the NABCEP PV Associate Exam. If you pass the PV Associate Exam after completing the course, which most students do, you'll receive 18 advanced NABCEP credits toward sitting for the PV Installation Professional certification exam.

Part 2: 40-Hour Advanced Solar PV Installer Training

Next, you'll get into more complex aspects of solar design and installation. This course focuses on the National Electrical Code (NEC) and preparing for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification exam. It is approved for 40 hours of advanced NABCEP training.

Not Included: "Solar Photovoltaic Basics" and "Solar PV Engineering and Installation" Books

The Solar PV Installer Boot Camp course is based on Dr. Sean White's NABCEP PV Associate Exam preparation book: "Solar Photovoltaic Basics." The 40-Hour Advanced PV Installer course is based on Dr. White's NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification exam prep book: "Solar PV Engineering and Installation." These books are not included in the course price. They can be purchased for about $35 through Amazon or other online booksellers.

Not Included: NABCEP PV Associate Exam Fee ($150)

After completing the Solar PV Installer Boot Camp Training, you'll need to take the NABCEP PV Associate Exam in order to earn your first 18 advanced NABCEP credits. The exam can be taken at any Castle Worldwide testing location in the United States or Canada. After you complete the course and are ready to take the exam, your Student Advocate will charge you the $150 exam fee and register you in the NABCEP system.

The 40-Hour Advanced Solar PV Installer Training is based on the NABCEP Job Task Analysis and includes sample exam questions for every section.

Earn 58 Advanced NABCEP Credits

If you complete the Solar PV Boot Camp Training and pass the NABCEP PV Associate Exam AND then complete the 40-Hour Advanced Solar PV Installer Training, you'll have all 58 advanced NABCEP credits needed to sit for the PV Installation Professional certification exam. The exam is offered twice a year (spring and fall) at various sites around the United States and must be taken in person.

Week 1 - "Solar PV Installer Boot Camp Training + NABCEP PV Associate Exam Prep" - History of Solar, Markets and Applications for Solar PV, and Safety Basics

During this 6-week course, Sean White will prepare you to pass the NABCEP PV Associate Exam. The first week of the course covers the origins of solar PV technology, current markets and applications for the technology, and the basic safety considerations and requirements for solar PV installers. Topics include: different types of PV systems, OSHA, National Electrical Code (NEC), arc flashes, overcurrent protection devices, fall protection, and lockout-tagout (LOTO).

Week 2 - Electricity Basics + Solar Energy Fundamentals

This week covers concepts, definitions, terminology, and formulas related to electricity. It also lays out the science, data, and principles you must understand to grasp how solar energy is collected. Topics include: Ohm's Law, power, energy, voltage, current, batteries, multimeters, measurement, types of DC connections, transmission, insolation data, solar time, sun paths, shading, and solar radiation.

Week 3 - PV Module Fundamentals and System Components

This week covers how solar photovoltaic (PV) technology works, the materials used to make PV modules, module efficiency, important formulas, temperature and voltage considerations, and how to test a PV system. It also provides definitions for the primary components that comprise a solar PV system.

Week 4 - PV System Sizing and Electrical Design

This week covers the factors to consider when sizing a grid-tied or off-grid system, system losses, tilt, factors that increase or decrease PV system output, single-line diagrams, ampacity, Ohm's Law, voltage drop, charge controllers, AC- and DC-coupled battery systems, battery charging stages, overcurrent protection devices, and determining voltage ranges.

Week 5 - Solar PV Components and Complete Systems

Beginning with a close-up look at each element of grid-tied and off-grid systems, including: modules, inverters, charge controllers, batteries and more, these elements are then configured into complete systems. We'll also cover series and parallel wiring for batteries, and interaction between charge controllers and batteries.

Week 6 - Voltage Temperature Calculations + Practice Exam

This week, you'll learn about voltage temperature calculations, review some useful resources and take a 70-question practice exam to see how well you've mastered the material presented during the course.

Week 7 - "40-Hour Advanced Solar PV Installer Training" - Introduction and the National Electrical Code (NEC)

During this 6-week course, you will complete 40 hours of advanced solar training with the help of Dr. Sean White, ISPQ Certified Solar PV Master Trainer and 2014 Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) Trainer of the Year. During the first week, you will get to know your instructor, explore various solar resources, do some foundational reading, learn about important terms and concepts that you'll need to memorize or at least familiarize yourself with, and do an in-depth review of the sections of the National Electrical Code (NEC) that relate to solar PV design and installation.

This week, you will go through Article 690 of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Familiarity with this part of the NEC is critical for solar designers and installers.

Week 9 - National Electrical Code (NEC) - Article 705: Interconnections

This week is devoted to breaking down National Electrical Code (NEC) - Article 705: Interconnections. This is important because many solar PV systems connect to the power grid, which introduces complexity into system design.

Week 10 - Safety and Wire Sizing

This week, you'll review important safety considerations and precautions and also learn about proper wire sizing.

Week 11 - Solar Trigonometry and Practice Exam for NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification Exam

This week you'll review the trigonometry concepts you'll need for solar calculations and take a 70-question practice exam to prepare you for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification exam.

Week 12 - Question-by-Question Practice Exam Review

This week, you'll review each question from the practice exam to understand how to arrive at the correct answer.
