How to Renew Your Electrical License in Florida
Electricians in Florida must meet the following requirements in order to renew their license:
- License renewal deadline is August 31, every even year.
- Certified and Registered Electrical Contractors: Complete 11 hours of board-approved continuing education every 2 years. At least 7 hours must be technical, including 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course. At least 1 hour must be dedicated to each of the following: Workers' Compensation, Workplace Safety, Business, Advanced, and Laws/Rules.
- Those engaged in alarm work must have 2 hours on false alarm prevention.
- Alarm Contractors: 7 hours of continuing education, including 1 hour Workers' Compensation, 1 hour Workplace Safety, 1 hour Business Practices, 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules, 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course, 2 hours False Alarm Prevention.
- Specialty Contractors: 7 hours of continuing education, including 1 hour Workers' Compensation, 1 hour Workplace Safety, 1 hour Business Practices, 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules, 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course, 2 hours general credit.
