IGSHPA Geothermal Installer Certification Training

Lyon, Conklin & Co., 7030 Troy Hill Drive, Suite 700B, Elkridge, MD, 21075

Course Description

Offered in partnership with the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA). Those who pass the open book exam become IGSHPA Accredited and NATE Certified geothermal heat pump installers. Course also includes a hands on pipe fusion training and certificate. This course is required to access some government incentives, some product distributors require it of their dealers, and some engineers restrict bid lists to IGSHPA Certified installers. Quite simply, this is the foundational course for any serious geothermal installer.

Course Agenda

* Pre-Course Reading - Students can access these immediately after enrolling

Expect two things to happen once you enroll: 1) You’ll get a receipt emailed to you confirming enrollment, 2) Your course will show up in your ‘Account’, with access to pre-course reading assignments – if you don't have a solid fundamental understanding of the technology already, this is your chance to prepare.

Three Full Days in the Classroom - Fusion Certification + IGSHPA / NATE Exam

You'll be getting emails from us in the week before the class begins. Make sure you stay in touch and commit the time and energy required to learn the information and pass the test. Class runs 8am – 5pm each of the first two days and you’ll get out at about 3:15pm on the third day. The NATE Exam is 100 multiple choice questions – the test is open-book, and we have a 90% passing rate on this exam.

Post Course Follow up -

Taking this course is not an end in itself - this is the beginning of something great. Your instructor and the staff at HeatSpring will stay in touch and support you in any way we can as you gain more experience in the geothermal industry. These resources will help you stay connected.

Meet The Instructor

Charles Remund

PhD, CGD, Geo-Connections, Inc

Dr. Remund has over 20 years of experience installing and designing geothermal systems. He has been a certified instructor for IGHSPA since 1994. He has been on the Mechanical Engineering faculty at South Dakota State University since 1988, where he teaches thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, design of thermal systems and applied laboratory courses. He is a co-author of the IGSHPA geothermal installer training manual titled "Design and Installation of Residential and Light Commercial GSHP Systems".

Dr. Remund has been principle investigator on many research projects associated with ground source heat pumps, specifically addressing heat transfer characteristics of grouting materials, soil and rock. He worked with regional electric utilities and the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium through the Northern Geothermal Support Center at SDSU, through which hundreds have been trained in various aspects of ground source heat pump design and installation. Training and outreach activities continue in a limited capacity at SDSU, while Dr. Remund has become involved in private efforts to promote ground source heat pumps through design assistance, soil and rock formation thermal conductivity testing, and technical support for thermally-enhanced grouting materials.
