Agenda

YOU WILL PASS THE EXAM - Guaranteed.

Unofficially, passing rates for the NABCEP PV Installer exam hover around 40%. People who take this course do 50% better than that - with 60% passing. We're working hard to improve that number and are offering a guarantee to anyone taking this course: You will pass. If you don't, then you can re-take this course in preparation for your retake. All materials will be available on the first day of the course - here are some optional things you can do to get ready for class to start...

WELCOME TO CLASS - Meet The Instructor, Staff, and Each Other

Ready to get started? This class is online, but we're all real people. Here's how we make it feel that way: On the first day of class you'll get a call from Ken, we have some videos you can watch to get to know Ken, Brian, and Chris, and we're asking everybody to introduce themselves on the Message Wall. That Message Wall on the right side of the course page is the place to ask and answer questions. Don't be shy - feel free to have conversations there, ask basic stuff, and respond to each other.

Module 1 - Safety and OSHA Review

We're going to start with the easy stuff, but you shouldn't take it for granted. Every point counts on the NABCEP Exam, so there's no point in missing this stuff. Whether you've forgotten or never really learned it, these things trip up a lot of people when they get to the exam - so let's take our time and make sure we've got this down cold. The module ends with a quiz to test your readiness for the NABCEP Exam.

Module 2 - Electric Basics

Solar PV is all about electricity. For non-electricians this is possibly the most critical lesson. You electricians will find this material a lot easier, but it's useful to remind yourself how NABCEP thinks and talks about this stuff. Ask lots of questions - your instructor is a Master Electrician and loves to be challenged on his knowledge of the code.

Module 3 - Irradiance

Most solar PV installers spend most of their time thinking about and performing these activities, so there's a danger in forgetting what NABCEP is looking for. Part of the purpose of this module is to help you learn the best practices NABCEP will test you on - how to think like a test taker. The module ends with a quiz to test your readiness for the NABCEP Exam.

Module 4 - Sizing a Solar PV System

In this section we'll walk through each of the steps for sizing and designing a PV system. Even if you do this work on a regular basis, this is a chance to make sure you're crossing your t's and dotting your i's. The module ends with a quiz to test your readiness for the NABCEP Exam.

Module 5 - Conductors

In this module we continue with lessons and a practice test on conductors. Use the workbook to follow along in the video lessons and be sure to speak up if anything isn't clear. At the end see if you can get a perfect score on the practice test.

Module 6 - Roof Mounted Solar PV Systems

This section of the course covers the details of mounting PV on roofs. Use the workbook to follow the video presentation and see how how well you can do on the short practice test. We've also included a short speech in this module to inspire you to keep going!

Module 7 - Grounding

In this section we'll cover everything you ever wanted to know about grounding as relates to solar and the NABCEP Exam. Get excited. This is where the laminated code sheet you received will come in really handy.

Module 8 - Grid-Tie Connection

Grid-tied systems represent the vast majority of solar PV installations in North America - let's review what NABCEP needs you to know about how they work.

Module 9 - Battery Systems

This module is worth the price of admission by itself. Most people don't know enough about batteries because they're such a niche topic within the industry. But batteries are Ken's speciality!

AFTER THE COURSE - Industry Contacts, Tools, Resources for Success on the Job

Taking this course is not an end in itself - this is the beginning of something great. These assignments will make sure you see the maximum benefit from the training and help make sure you continue down the right path
