Dr. Bing Dong is an Associate Professor at Syracuse University in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He is also the Associate Director of the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Energy and Environmental Systems, and the lead of BESTlab. He has more than 20 years’ experience and contributions in research and education, including 1) occupant behavior modeling and occupant-centric predictive building controls; 2) developing novel simulation and control models to solve buildings-to-grid integration control problems; 3) novel applications of machine learning methods to building demand forecasting, optimization, and controls; 4) developing a global occupant behavior database; and 5) education and mentoring of junior researchers and students and outreach to the practicing professional community. His research has over 9,000 citations on Google Scholar, he has had over 120 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers published, and he has received 35 research awards totaling over USD $12 million. He is the recipient of the 2019 NSF CAREER Award and the 2018 IBPSA-USA Emerging Contributor Award. Globally, he has served as the Subtask leader for IEA EBC Annex 66 and 79, and was named an IBPSA fellow in 2023. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Building Physics (2021-2024).
