Kathleen O'Brien - Executive Director, EMERGE

Kathleen O’Brien, LEED AP, CSBA, is a long time leader in the sustainable building field, recognized in 2008 as a lifetime Cascadia Fellow for her work developing collaborative green building programs, conducting research to support enabling green building policy, coordinating policy demonstration projects, and empowering professionals through tailored continuing education curriculum, such as the Sustainable Building Advisor Program. Thousands of professionals, organizations, and building projects nationally and internationally reflect the benefit of her leadership work over her 30+plus year career, in particular during her tenure at O’Brien & Company, one of the first green building consultancies in the U.S. Kathleen has an MA Environment & Community at Antioch University-Seattle where she was recognized as Distinguished Alumna in 2009, and now sits as a Board Trustee. She has founded and directs The EMERGE Leadership Project, a 501c3 non-profit, which is dedicated to "energizing the emergent leadership capabilities of green building professionals and advocates through training, mentoring and other support, with the ultimate goal of fostering a thriving and life-sustaining environment.”
