Solar Thermal Designer Certification Training

ONLINE

Description

This course includes two things: 1) Professional License for Polysun Solarthermal simulation, which is the standard design platform in the solar thermal industry, and 2) Certification and Training for users of the software. It combines videos, quizes, reading, and design problems to provide a robust learning experience. You can talk to Simon, email with him, and grow into a stronger system designer. (Note: you can also upgrade to the more expensive 'Designer' version of the software for an additional fee. And if you already own the software, you can also buy the training and certification a la carte)

Agenda

WELCOME - Orientation and Materials for the Training

Expect three things to happen when you enroll: 1) Your software will arrive within 1 week, 2) You'll have access to the course materials online immediately, and 3) You'll get a phone call on the first day of the course so we can officially meet and so we can understand exactly what you're hoping to learn in this training.

WEEK 1 - Introduction to Renewable Energy & Solar Thermal Basics

This week we'll lay the ground work for the course by providing some context and background. We'll briefly cover renewable energy in general, before covering the theory behind solar hot water systems. Feel free to cruise through this material if it is review for you, or spend more time with it if it's new and interesting.

WEEK 2 - Solar Thermal Design: Components, Controller Strategies, and Settings

This week we dive into a more advanced discussion of solar thermal systems. We'll define components and begin to explain how the system will come together. This week we'll perform some design exercises to introduce the software and get you comfortable designing simple systems.

WEEK 3 - Financial Analysis and System Optimization

This week we build on Week 2 designs and get into best practices for optimizing solar thermal systems. We'll use the software to run examples and demonstrate how to not just design systems that work - but systems that work efficiently. This week also includes a review of financial calculations for creating proposals and making key design decisions.

WEEK 4 - Advanced Polysun Training + Development of New Hydraulic Schematics

This week you'll learn tricks and tools it takes most users years to find and master. The goal is to make you a power-user, capable of getting the most out of the program. Polysun’s advanced capabilities will be demonstrated in detail using a comprehensive example. You will also learn how to develop new hydronic schematics for solar thermal systems with Polysun.

FINAL EXAM - Earn Solar Thermal Designer Certification

Successfully passing the final exam earns Polysun Solar Thermal Designer Certification. This is a voluntary credential that communicates design expertise to customers and companies in the industry.

AFTER THE COURSE - Tools and Resources for Industry Success

It's impossible to remember everything you learned in this class, so the resources and tools will be available for a full year after the training ends. The HeatSpring Alumni network is an incredible lifeline for continued growth in the industry.

Meet The Instructor

Lars Kunath

Mechanical Engineer, Vela Solaris

Lars is a Mechanical Engineer at Vela Solaris, Inc. He has been involved in the solar industry for over 3 years. His involvement in the industry has included design and optimizing large solar systems, programming technical models in Polysun, training students in Polysun, selling all kinds of solar systems. Lars graduated with his Master of Science degree in Engineering from University of Dalarna in Sweden in 2012. Lars enjoys instructing newcomers to the industry in hopes that they leave sharing his enthusiasm for solar technology. His main goal is to help promote and build confidence in solar systems through education in order to help it become a mainstream technology.
